Tips for packing your own storage container
Pack large items into the container first. Pack your beds and sofas on their ends to use the height of the container and fill the gaps with smaller items. You should use mattress covers for beds and plastic wrap for sofas for added protection.
Always pack tightly to prevent movement, and distribute weight as evenly as possible throughout the storage container.
Kitchen appliances should be clean and dry, and remember to leave the doors slightly ajar to prevent condensation or odours.
All small items should be packed in boxes and these should be filled with bubble wrap or paper to prevent movement.
Try to use the same size boxes to pack, as this will make it easier to stack. Light boxes containing fragile items should be stacked on top of heavier boxes to prevent crushing. Don’t forget to label the boxes to help with identification when unpacking.
Mirrors and pictures should be packed on their ends, bubble wrapped and placed between mattresses and soft furnishings.
The polished surfaces of furniture should be protected with paper blankets to protect them, and when loading the furniture place the polished surfaces against each other with a sheet between.
Dismantling items such as beds and tables will save you space, but remember to keep all fittings with the dismantled furniture. Place them in a plastic bag or envelope and attach this to the item of furniture for ease.
Maximise your available packing space by filling wardrobes and drawers.
